Michael Ruel Nichols lives in Sylva, North Carolina, where he directs church choirs, teaches as a adjunct faculty member for Western Carolina University's Music Department, is assistant director for the Western Carolina Community Chorus, and performs with The Cullowee Consort and the Carolina Consort, two early music ensembles.

A retired elementary music teacher with 30 years experience, Michael received his B.S. and M.M.E. degrees from WCU and has completed three levels of Orff Schulwerk training and many master classes at the University of Memphis. He presents weekend Orff workshops throughout the United States and provides recorder instruction for summer Orff courses.

Michael will be leading several sessions at this year's North Carolina Music Educator's Conference in Winston Salem before heading off to the AOSA conference in St. Louis. Read more about it!
